- Complete the oil sample information slip.
- For the Unit Number field, please use the machine ID, or find a way to uniquely identify the machine so you will always know which machine this oil sample came from.
- If you would like any other tests, such as a particle count or a TAN, please make a note of it on the slip.
- Wrap the gray material around the oil sample and put both in the plastic bag. Roll together the sample, information slip, and a check or credit card number. Put it all in the black mailer tube and send it to us.
- If you have many samples to take at once, we have a 20-pack kit available to make the job easier. It allows you to collect 20 samples in one box and send them together, avoiding the paperwork and postage necessary for sending samples individually. If you don't have any 20 -pack boxes but would like some, please call us at 260-744-2380.
Some post offices mistake oil samples for hazardous material. Oil is not hazardous material. Blackstone Laboratories' oil sample kit meets all postal requirements. To see a letter you can give the post office to help reassure them, please click here. The TAN, or Total Acid Number, is a neutralization test that determines the acidity of an oil. In order for the TAN to be useful, you have to know the TAN number on the unused oil product. An increase in this number indicates increasing acidity of the used oil.
