Industrial Oil Sampling Procedure

Industrial Oil Sampling Procedure

  1. Take the sample from the sampling port (if the machine has one) or from the fluid reservoir. It’s best to sample downstream from the filter if possible.
  2. If sampling with a pump, thread the tubing down the dipstick and pull the sample into the white bottle. The tubing can be cleaned with kerosene.
  3. Our 20-pack box (pictured) is ideal for sampling several machines at once. Write the machine number on the lid and the particulars on the info sheet.
  4. Or, sample smaller quantities with individual kits:
    • The Unit ID is the machine ID/serial number.
    • Note other tests like a particle count or a TAN on the sheet.
    • Wrap the gray material around the oil sample and put both in the plastic bag. Put that in the black mailer. Put the black mailer and the form into the white envelope and send it off.

Some post offices mistake oil samples for hazardous material. Oil is not hazardous. Blackstone Laboratories’ oil sample kit meets all postal requirements. To see a letter you can give the post office to help reassure them that it’s okay to send, please click here.
