This test is done using a refractometer and can only give reliable results if the DEF is free of any petroleum contamination like diesel fuel.
This test can only be run on DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) or diesel fuel with a separated water phase. Cannot be run on oil or diesel fuel.
Minimum amount of DEF required: 10 ml
