Janelle

When it comes to wordsmithing, analyst Janelle may have a more eclectic background than most. After earning B.A.s in professional writing and creative writing from Purdue University, Janelle began a career writing on a wide range of topics including business management, investing, and marine-focused sewing projects before finding her new home at Blackstone. Outside of learning everything she can about the wide world of oil analysis, Janelle enjoys playing D&D with friends and working on DIY projects. Her creative hobbies include knitting, crocheting, moving one of her family’s three cats off of her knitting or crocheting project, making stained glass art, and writing her very first fiction novel.

Gabey

Gabey holds a Master’s degree in Devised Theatrical Performance from Pig Iron Studios in Philadelphia, which is a fancy way of saying she went to clown school. On weekends you can usually find her teaching or attending some form of artistic performance. On weekdays, you’ll find her curled in bed next to her Corgi, Oatmeal, reading some deeply inspiring work of environmental non-fiction that has likely moved her to tears. If she is neither of those places, she is probably cruising in a late 70’s Mopar with her partner (who restores and preserves Classic Mopars) to get ice cream. Although Gabey attended clown school, she asks that you please refrain from asking her to tell you a joke. She graduated during the 2020 pandemic, and Zoom school was not sufficient.

Jeff

Jeff came to Blackstone after a long career in the newspaper industry that led from small-town Ohio to Anchorage, Alaska, and eventually Fort Wayne. He’s gone from writing about politics and crime at night to writing about oil during the day! He and his wife have three adult daughters. As a music fan of a certain age, I still have a wall covered with CDs and cassettes (!) and enjoy seeing the seasoned artists who visit The Clyde Theatre. He also enjoys walking their two dogs and tries to enjoy working on his fixer-upper house (one daughter got him a T-shirt that reads, “I enjoy long romantic walks through Menards”).

Sam

If you have a question about ecology or animals, Sam is the person to go to. An aspiring ornithologist, Sam graduated from the University of Saint Francis with degrees in Biology and Environmental Science. When he’s not working in the lab, Sam can be found volunteering with injured raptors at Soarin Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation Center, reading books on ecological conservation, or working out at the gym. Sam is also passionate about helping less fortunate communities, which led him to traveling to the Dominican Republic to provide medical and veterinary care to communities located near the Haiti/DR border.

Chrissie

Chrissie came to Blackstone from a racing family. She grew up at local race tracks watching her Dad race and work with cars, so joining Blackstone was clearly written in the stars. Besides racing,  Chrissie enjoys gardening and, oddly enough, cleaning. Het two teenagers are her whole world, though working at Blackstone might give them a run for their money in terms of mom love.

Emily

Emily spends her days slinging oil in the lab, but when she’s not working, she spends her time outdoors with her kid or building (and hopefully not stepping on) something with Legos. And when she’s not doing that, she’s playing video games with friends. She has a puppy named Finley and a cat named Timmy, and is planning on growing her family with a few reptiles or possibly an arachnid or two.

Amy

Amy worked in the printing world for almost 23 years before deciding it was time for a change, landing her here at Blackstone. She is a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan and loves to make the trip to Raymond James Stadium with her husband to watch them play. When not lucky enough to be soaking up the sun in Florida, she enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren.

Beck

Beck brings his data entry and receiving skills to Blackstone from a life in merchandising. When he’s not enjoying life in the world of oil samples, you’ll find him spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, listening to music, trying good food, and making friends with just about any animal he meets. He appreciates life’s simple pleasures and tries to bring a positive attitude to each day.

Savannah

When Savannah is off the clock, she enjoys the simple things in life – loving on her three precious cats, listening to a podcast, or spending quality time with friends and family. During the summertime, you can find her kayaking out on a lake or taking a long walk through the woods. For as long as she can remember, she’s always been passionate about traveling and attending live events. Savannah enjoys learning new things, meeting great people, and making the most of every experience life has to offer.

Isabella

If it has anything to do with animals, Isabella’s there. She graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Studies with concentrations in animal health/behavior and marine biology/sustainable aquaculture. Beyond that, she offers some of her free time to volunteer at Soarin’ Hawk and helps with avian care. Isabella’s love of animal science brought together her and her high school sweetheart (now husband), who is an aspiring ornithologist. When she’s not volunteering, Isabella loves to play with her newfiedoodle, Daisy, crochet, and read. She wants to travel more, too. In 2018 she visited Costa Rica on an ecotour. Alaska is definitely next on the list!
